Daily Briefing Football's bowl lineup

IRVING, Texas, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- There are 33 sanctioned bowl games over the next month, with the Bowl Championship Series title game Jan. 7 between Alabama and Texas the final contest.

Officials rounded up teams for bowl games from Albuquerque and St. Petersburg, Fla., to Pasadena, Calif. The first games are Dec. 19 with the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque (Wyoming and Fresno State) and the St. Petersburg Bowl (Rutgers and Central Florida).

Five teams in the bowl division completed their regular seasons undefeated with Alabama and Texas winning the right to play in the big football programs' final game. Both are 13-0.

Also unbeaten are Boise State and Texas Christian, which will meet Jan. 4 in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., and Cincinnati, which drew one-beaten (by Alabama) Florida for the Jan. 1 Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Supporters of the BCS system of finding a champion point out that with 66 teams involved in bowl games, 33 will end the season with wins as opposed to just one tournament winner.
