2009 Miss. England winner, Katrina Hodge is changing the world. Well, sort of. Hodge, who is known as "combat barbie" because she was in the army, wants to do away with the swimsuit portion of beauty pageants. She says, "I think it's nerve-racking enough for girls to get up on a stage and speak, let alone appear in a swimsuit" (Hodge via Huffington Post).
For years, the swimsuit portion of beauty pageants has been discussed for many reasons. Hodge, who is the face, er, body for La Senza underwear company, may have just gotten through. It has been reported that the 2010 Miss. England pageant will replace the swimsuit portion of its' competition with a sport portion. Who knows what that will be like and if it will effect pageants here in the US.
